Family Home Evening for D&C 30-36

 Read D&C 30:1-2

1 Behold, I say unto you, David, that you have feared man and have not relied on me for strength as you ought.

2 But your mind has been on the things of the earth more than on the things of me, your Maker, and the ministry whereunto you have been called; and you have not given heed unto my Spirit⁠, and to those who were set over you, but have been persuaded by those whom I have not commanded.

Discuss

What are some “things of the earth” that can distract us from remembering Jesus Christ and His gospel? How can we keep our focus on Him?

This doesn’t mean that we can only do things like read our scriptures, pray, go to church, and watch church movies all of the time. What we can do is keep our foundation on the gospel of Jesus Christ at all times. 

When we are out playing with our friends, do we do and say good things?

When we play things like video games and board games, do they have things in them that would make you want to put them away if the Savior walked into the room?

When we earn money, do we remember to pay tithing first?

When we make choices to participate in activities and hobbies, always remember that you represent a disciple of Jesus Christ. Always do things and behave in a way that shows Heavenly Father that His commandments and the Atonement of Jesus Christ are important to you.
