D&C 71-75

 Read D&C 75:3-5, 13, and 16

3 Behold, I say unto you that it is my will that you should go forth and not tarry, neither be idle but labor with your might—

4 Lifting up your voices as with the sound of a trump, proclaiming the truth according to the revelations and commandments which I have given you.

5 And thus, if ye are faithful ye shall be laden with many sheaves, and crowned with honor, and glory, and immortality, and eternal life

13 And again, verily thus saith the Lord, let my servant Orson Hyde and my servant Samuel H. Smith take their journey into the eastern countries, and proclaim the things which I have commanded them; and inasmuch as they are faithful, lo, I will be with them even unto the end.

16 And he who is faithful shall overcome all things, and shall be lifted up at the last day.

Discuss

What does it mean to be idle?

What does it mean to labor diligently?

D&C 67-70

 Read D&C 67:10-14

10 And again, verily I say unto you that it is your privilege, and a promise I give unto you that have been ordained unto this ministry, that inasmuch as you strip yourselves from jealousies and fears, and humble yourselves before me, for ye are not sufficiently humble, the veil shall be rent and you shall see me and know that I am—not with the carnal neither natural mind, but with the spiritual.

11 For no man has seen God at any time in the flesh, except quickened by the Spirit of God. 12 Neither can any natural man abide the presence of God, neither after the carnal mind. 13 Ye are not able to abide the presence of God now, neither the ministering of angels; wherefore, continue in patience until ye are perfected.

14 Let not your minds turn back; and when ye are worthy, in mine own due time, ye shall see and know that which was conferred upon you by the hands of my servant Joseph Smith, Jun. Amen.

Discussion

Explain that Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ are exalted, perfect beings. Because they are exalted beings, a mortal being could not be in their presence, because exalted being can only be in the presence of perfect people. When Joseph Smith and others have been in Their presence, they had to be physically changed to be face-to-face with Them. Ask your children how jealousy, fear, and pride keep us from growing closer to the Lord.

Activity

Hide a picture of Jesus Christ behind a blanket. Explain to your children that the blanket represents the veil. When we die, we pass through the veil. In order to live with Jesus and Heavenly Father again, we need to walk a straight path by living righteously. Make a path on the floor, using tape or string. Have your children walk along the path to see Jesus again. Easy, right? Now, have your children start at the beginning of the path. This time, add obstacles to the path. Maybe a chair, pile of pillows, or a box they have to climb over. Call these obstacles jealousy, fear, and pride, and give examples of things or situations that they could/do experience these emotions. Explain that it is our job to climb over and defeat these obstacles the best that we can, and the Atonement of Jesus Christ will make us perfect so that we can live with Heavenly Father and Jesus Christ again.

D&C 64

 Read

D&C 64:33

Wherefore, be not weary in well-doing, for ye are laying the foundation of a great work. And out of small things proceedeth that which is great.

Activity

Get a small, kids puzzle that has a few pieces to it, or you could assemble a bigger puzzle and set a few pieces aside at the end. Ask your children for ideas of things they can do to lay the foundation for the Lord’s work. Write their ideas on small pieces of paper, and tape them to the back of the puzzle pieces. Explain that just as the puzzle is incomplete without these pieces, each of these things are helpful, but the Lord’s work cannot be complete, unless all of the pieces are working together.

The following video shows an example of how we did this lesson.

D&C 63

 Read

D&C 60:58-64

58 For this is a day of warning, and not a day of many words. For I, the Lord, am not to be mocked in the last days.

59 Behold, I am from above, and my power lieth beneath. I am over all, and in all, and through all, and search all things, and the day cometh that all things shall be subject unto me.

60 Behold, I am Alpha and Omega, even Jesus Christ.

61 Wherefore, let all men beware how they take my name in their lips—

62 For behold, verily I say, that many there be who are under this condemnation, who use the name of the Lord, and use it in vain, having not authority.

63 Wherefore, let the church repent of their sins, and I, the Lord, will own them; otherwise they shall be cut off.

64 Remember that that which cometh from above is sacred, and must be spoken with care, and by constraint of the Spirit; and in this there is no condemnation, and ye receive the Spirit through prayer; wherefore, without this there remaineth condemnation.

Discuss

Show your family a precious family treasure. How do we treat this item differently than other things that aren’t as valuable? What do the scriptures we read teach us about what we can do to reverence sacred things?

D&C 60-62

Read D&C 62:3

Nevertheless, ye are blessed, for the testimony which ye have borne is recorded in heaven for the angels to look upon; and they rejoice over you, and your sins are forgiven you

Discuss

What a testimony? How do we bear our testimony, both in church and in all places?

Activity

Help your children learn the format of bearing their testimony in church. Help them learn how they say what they know to be true. Encourage them to bear their testimony in sacrament meeting, if they are old enough and feel comfortable. If not, encourage them to bear their testimonies during their primary classes or during family home evening.
