Family Home Evening for Matthew 26; Matthew 26, Mark 14; John 13

 Read John 13:34-35

34 A new commandment I give unto you, That ye love one another; as I have loved you, that ye also love one another.

35 By this shall all men know that ye are my disciples, if ye have love one to another.

Discuss

Keep this scripture in mind as you listen to this story.

This week in Come Follow Me, we also read of when Jesus washed the feet of His disciples. When Jesus was washing His disciples’ feet, Simon Peter said, “Thou shalt never wash my feet.” He said this because he knew that Jesus was the Son of God, and washing someone’s feet is what a servant should do, not the Son of God.

Jesus told him that if he didn’t allow Him to serve him, then he would not be able to be with Him any more. Jesus answered him, “If I wash thee not, thou hast no part with me.”

Simon Peter then said, “Lord, not my feet only, but also my hands and my head.”

Jesus told him that it wasn’t necessary for him to be washed everywhere, just his feet.

Then, Jesus taught all of His disciples an important lesson, when He said, “I have given you an example, that ye should do as I have done to you. Verily, verily, I say unto you, The servant is not greater than his lord; neither he that is sent greater than he that sent him.If ye know these things, happy are ye if ye do them.”

The scripture that we read, in the beginning, tells us that we can follow Jesus Christ by loving each other as Jesus loves us. Then, the story we read gives us an example of how we can show Christlike love for other people.

According to these scriptures and story, how can we help other people know that we are disciples of Jesus Christ?
