Read
As you read the following scriptures, ask your children to look for 2 things. 1- How can we show the Lord that we love Him? 2- How does the Lord show us that He loves us?
Jake will read Joel 2:12-13
Zander will read Hosea 2:20-21
Parker will read Hosea 10:12
Joel 2:12-13
12 Therefore also now, saith the Lord, turn ye even to me with all your heart, and with fasting, and with weeping, and with mourning:
13 And rend your heart, and not your garments, and turn unto the Lord your God: for he is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and repenteth him of the evil.
Hosea 2:20-21 and 23
20 I will even betroth thee unto me in faithfulness: and thou shalt know the Lord.
21 And it shall come to pass in that day, I will hear, saith the Lord, I will hear the heavens, and they shall hear the earth;
23 And I will sow her unto me in the earth; and I will have mercy upon her that had not obtained mercy; and I will say to them which were not my people, Thou art my people; and they shall say, Thou art my God.
Hosea 10:12
12 Sow to yourselves in righteousness, reap in mercy; break up your fallow ground: for it is time to seek the Lord, till he come and rain righteousness upon you.
Discuss
In these scriptures, the Lord asks us to turn to Him with all of our hearts, fast, feel truly repentant for our sins, sow ourselves to righteousness, reap mercy, break up our fallow ground (prepare ourselves to grow spiritually), and to seek the Lord.
Use these things to help you make a list of what you can do to show your love for the Lord. For example, you could turn to Him by turning off a movie that has things in it that would make the Lord sad.
The Lord shows us that He loves us, because He is gracious and merciful, slow to anger, and of great kindness, and forgives us of our sins. He wants to bind us to Him forever, just as someone who marries another person is bound to them. He gives us the Holy Ghost so that we can hear what Heavenly Father wants us to know, and He listens to us, when we pray. Sometimes the world seems so mean and hard. Sometimes it feels like nobody loves us and we are all alone. If we can learn to turn our hearts to the Lord we will see that we will find mercy and love. The kind of love that is eternal, pure, and everlasting, and He will rain righteous upon you.
Activity
Fill out the clock on the next page to help children identify something that they can do each hour to show the Lord that they love Him. Set a reminder or alarm and have them do these things for 1 week. At the end of the week ask them how they were able to better feel the love of the Lord, as they gave their love to Him.
