Goodbye note!

 Hello Everyone!

This has been a great 4+ years on YouTube and Blogger. We began this channel during the COVID 19 Pandemic, so that families could learn that family home evening is something for every family, no matter how young or old their children are. We showed how to teach your children the language of scriptures, by having them read a topic scripture. We showed how a family can have a family activity or discussion about that scripture in order to solidify what the scriptures teach us.

When we began this journey, our family was a family of 7, and now we are a family of 8! Our kids have grown up before our eyes. We started in April 2021 with D&C, our format has changed a bit, but the message of Jesus Christ and His Infinite Atonement has not!

Now that we have completed weekly, Come Follow Me Lessons for all 4 books of scripture—minus the few months last year, when we were moving. Who knows, we may finish those eventually—we are going to end the weekly videos. We have playlisted our previous videos to make them a little easier to find.

It is now time for us to wrap up this channel to match the needs of our growing family. Thank you all for your views and comments. The Atonement of Jesus Christ is real. He died for each one of you, so that you can receive eternal life through repentance and be resurrected. He loves you, and we love you! We hope that you will continue to have family home evening. Thank you for watching!

Family Home Evening for D&C 49-50

Read D&C 50:23-25

23 And that which doth not edify is not of God, and is darkness.

24 That which is of God is light; and he that receiveth light, and continueth in God, receiveth more light; and that light groweth brighter and brighter until the perfect day.

25 And again, verily I say unto you, and I say it that you may know the truth, that you may chase darkness from among you;

Object Lesson

Have a picture of Jesus in a dark room. Light a candle and hold it about 5 ft (about 1.5 meters) from the picture and ask the kids how well they can see the picture. Then, use a lantern or a flashlight can they see it better? Turn on the light in the room, does their vision of the Savior get any better?

Discuss

In For the Strength of Youth: A Guide for Making Choices (page 17) the first paragraph under the heading “Walk in God’s Light,” it says, “You make better choices when you can see things clearly. That’s why light is so important: light makes it easier to see the right path. Heavenly Father has given you access to heavenly light—the gift of the Holy Ghost—to help you see clearly what is good and bad, right and wrong.”

According to this paragraph, what helps us to see clearly what is good and bad, right and wrong?

What can we do to receive more light in our lives and chase away the darkness as we listen to the Holy Ghost?

Family Home Evening for D&C 46-48

 Read D&C 46:11-12

11 For all have not every gift given unto them; for there are many gifts, and to every man is given a gift by the Spirit of God.

12 To some is given one, and to some is given another, that all may be profited thereby.

Discuss

Is there something that you seem to be naturally good at? Maybe you can dance, sing, or act. Maybe you are really good at math, writing, or drawing. Maybe you can play a musical instrument or a sport. Did you know that these talents are gifts from your Heavenly Father?

Teach

D&C Section 46 talks about some spiritual gifts that people might have. Some of the gifts listed in this section are the gift of having a testimony of Jesus Christ and His Atonement, being able to believe the testimonies of others, gift of discernment (knowing good from evil), wisdom, knowledge, faith to be healed, faith to heal, working of miracles, prophecy, speaking different languages, interpreting other languages, and others.

What are some spiritual gifts that you have or that you notice in each other?

Family Home Evening 2025 D&C 45

 Read D&C 45:32

32 But my disciples shall stand in holy places, and shall not be moved; but among the wicked, men shall lift up their voices and curse God and die.

Discuss

A holy place is a place where we can feel the Spirit speak to us. What are some holy places that God has given us?

Teach

You may have thought of churches or temples, but did you know that nearly any place could be a holy place? In January 2019, we started the Come Follow Me program in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. Before its release, President Nelson said this, “As Latter-day Saints, we have become accustomed to thinking of “church” as something that happens in our meetinghouses, supported by what happens at home. We need an adjustment to this pattern. It is time for a home-centered Church, supported by what takes place inside our branch, ward, and stake buildings.” This statement taught us that our homes needed to become a holy place, just like a church or a temple. Our homes need to become a safe place where words of love are spoken, where we can receive personal revelations for ourselves and our family members, where we can grow spiritually and physically. So that when we go to school, work, or other activities, we can make our hearts a holy place, protected from the influence of Satan and his followers.

Discuss

What can you do to make your home a more sacred place? How can this help you to feel the Spirit more when you are not at home, church, or the temple?

Family Home Evening for D&C 41-44

Read D&C 41:5

5 He that receiveth my law and doeth it, the same is my disciple; and he that saith he receiveth it and doeth it not, the same is not my disciple, and shall be cast out from among you;

Discuss

This scripture tells us that in order to be a disciple of Jesus Christ, we need to do two things. What are they?

It tells us to RECEIVE His law and DO it. What does this mean to you?

Teach

Imagine it is your birthday party. When it is time to open the presents, your friend goes to the pile of gifts and brings it to you. How do you receive the gift?

You don’t just take the gift, then set it aside, right? You take it, you open it, and if it means enough to you, you begin to use it or play with it in your everyday life.

This is the same with the Laws of Jesus Christ. When we receive a law or commandment from Jesus Christ, we don’t just think, “Oh that’s cool,” and continue doing what we’ve always done. We hear it, understand it, and make it part of our everyday life. This is the “doing” part of our discipleship.

Only when we receive His laws AND do them, can we become true disciples or followers of Jesus Christ.

Discuss

How are you, individually or as a family, trying to be better disciples of Jesus Christ?
